After a $16 million dollar renovation, the Gelman Library dedicated its new entrance and entrance floor in October of 2013. The entrance floor features state-of-the art, cooperative, learning spaces and integrates current technology with design elements requested directly by our students.

The GW Writing Center is an open, welcoming, professional environment within which members of the GW community can receive dedicated attention to their writing and research projects.
The Learning Commons
The Learning Commons is a collaborative learning space with access to advanced software and technology. It features a combination of iMacs and PC virtual desktops loaded with production and specialized software, including SPSS, Studio, Gimp, Handbrake, Audacity, R, and QGIS. Students love the usb charging stations and convenient outlets as well as 10 flatbed scanners scattered throughout.
The Learning Commons is open anytime Gelman is open. Use computers.library.gwu.edu to see which computers are available from your phone, your room or anywhere.
The Data Visualization Room is a sophisticated space designed for interactive and immersive learning. The highly flexible room can meet the needs of instructors in a variety of academic fields, including Music, Film Studies, Art History, Geography, Mechanical Engineering, and Science. Students can view educational materials on a 4K, 3-D display with image clarity four times greater than standard HD. The 84-inch screen displays with pinpoint accuracy for breathtaking natural detail and has a flawless picture quality for a brilliantly true-to-life experience. The 3-D data visualizer captures real objects for 3-D display on the screen and can zoom in for razor-sharp clarity, revealing authentic detail of materials such as anatomical models of organs or fossil remains.The room is equipped with a 3-D Blu-ray player and a high-fidelity surround-sound system, creating an immersive presentation environment to showcase educational materials.

Technology Equipped Group Study Rooms
The Gelman Entrance Floor includes 5 reservable group study rooms and 2 research consultations rooms, which are available for study when not in use. Each room has a high definition LCD screen that easily connects to laptops, tablets or other devices to make working on group projects easier. Up to 4 devices can connect at one time.
Study rooms can be reserved any time Gelman is open through our Study Room Reservation System.
Multi-Purpose Rooms (218A & 219)
Our 2 multi-purpose rooms are available for academic success events such as tutoring and workshops When not in use by our academic partners, these rooms are available for group and individual study. Each room is equipped with a large, flat screen monitor and speakers, which easily connect to a laptop. Room 218a also has a white board. Each room has large windows and movable tables and chairs.

Snack Lounge & Reading Lounge
The Snack Lounge provides a space for students to enjoy a meal inside the library building. Vending machines are also available for coffee, soda or a healthy snack The adjoining Reading Lounge features comfortable chairs and large windows for a more relaxed atmosphere. Student Organizations partner with GW Libraries librarians to curate book displays about their organization's beliefs or mission. If your student organization is interested in sponsoring a book display, please contact the Student Liasion.
