Rare Book Friday: STEM Edition

This event has already taken place, please don't try to go to it!
Rare Book Friday

Did you know science, technology, and mathematics have always been central to research and education at GW?  Join us for a special STEM@GW edition of Rare Book Friday.

Explore our University Archives to find out how GW faculty played a prominent role in the advancement of the Atomic Age. See notebooks, publications, and course descriptions from a number of different University departments, including Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, and Psychology. We will also have original artifacts from a collection on the evolution of electronics and computers that was donated by a GW alum, including an early 20th century decimal calculator and early examples of computer chips. Come for the University history and stay for the rare books! See 300 years of landmarks in the history of science among the rare books of the original Columbian College Library, including the first Latin edition of Newton’s Opticks and Faraday’s Experimental Researches in Electricity.

Rare Book Friday is a monthly open house, featuring an up-close look at the materials of GW's special collections. Archivists choose a different collection for display each month and are on hand to a discuss the books and answer questions. This is a great opportunity to interact with rare and historic items that you can access in Gelman Library with the help of special collections staff. Learn how to enhance your research using the rich trove of primary sources available in GW's Special Collections Research Center.
